Eta Gamma Chapter History In the early 1980's three band members--R. Todd Palumbo, T. Anthony Cyrus, and Dominador F. Coloyan--ventured to Walt Disney World, returning with stories of a national fraternity for college band members, Kappa Kappa Psi, and its sister sorority Tau Beta Sigma.
A group of female band members--Nadene Stein, Deborah Gregson, Julie Christ, Michelle Buchelle, Deborah Hill, Donna Ryan, Jeanne Rauer, Leah Dienes, Natalie Sobchak, and Sharon Bernstein--worked with Dr. F. Lee “Doc” Chrisman and his wife Mrs. Vieva Chrisman, founders of the BU Band organizations, to become the founding class of Eta Gamma. The chapter was officially founded on February 11, 1984. Dr. and Mrs. Chrisman became the first of many honorary members of Eta Gamma chapter.
For the next decade, the chapter thrived and grew. In the mid-1990’s, however, the climate changed within the band, and internal and external problems became too difficult to overcome. The chapter disbanded in the spring of 1997.
 The Rebirth . . .
Shortly after the chapter disbanded, band director Joseph Wright realized the vacancy left without the sisterhood, as well as the need to revive it. At that point, only one Eta Gamma Sister was still active at Boston University. This Sister, Becki Stopherd, became the Big Sister to all members the Sigma class. Were it not for the help of our original Big Sister chapter, Delta Delta (University of Massachusetts, Amherst), the encouragement and support of the director, and the trust of nine adventurous young women—the chapter might not have been reborn. We were rebuilt in Spring 1999 with the nine new Sisters of Sigma Class--Julie Croteau, Erika Buatti, Natalia Douris, Chrissy Grandy, Tricia Kimball, Rebecca Sansom, Rebecca Moss, Noelle Thomas, and Amanda Wallace.
Looking Toward the Future…
With the induction of Tau class, Eta Gamma entered a new era of sisterhood by becoming a co-ed chapter. While still predominantly female in membership, a handful of men have found their home within Eta Gamma. A strong recruitment year in 2003-2004 doubled the size of the chapter, exciting both actives and alumni that Tau Beta Sigma is once again thriving at Boston University.
